Disinformation.

An important mark of intelligence is the intention to reassess our model of the world as we receive new and credible evidence.  Although we are regularly bombarded online with baseless claims and conspiracy theories, it is rare that any of these are accompanied by credible facts.

What makes evidence credible?

Well,  studies done by credible researchers is a start.  Universities and institutions are only as credible as their last well constructed study.  Any hint of influence or bias is the kiss of death for their organization and reputation. These studies tend to follow strict scientific method principles and clearly state their limitations.

We are social beings.  Part of belonging to a group is the fact that we share beliefs and philosophies.  Unfortunately though, we also resist any updates or deviations.  And there lies the rub.  You can't learn if you are always right.
