Helping your puppy sleep through the night

Getting a puppy to sleep through the night can be a challenge, but with patience and consistency, it's possible. Here are some tips to help your puppy sleep through the night:

  1. Establish a bedtime routine: Create a calming routine before bedtime, such as taking your puppy for a short walk, playing a quiet game, and offering a treat. This will help your puppy understand that it's time for sleep.

  2. Provide a comfortable sleeping area: Make sure your puppy has a cozy and comfortable sleeping area, such as a crate or a dog bed. This will help your puppy feel secure and relaxed.

  3. Limit food and water before bedtime: Avoid giving your puppy food or water for a few hours before bedtime to reduce the need for potty breaks during the night. We pull up the food and water at 7pm.

  4. Take your puppy outside before bedtime: Take your puppy outside for a potty break right before bedtime. This will help prevent accidents during the night.

  5. Ignore nighttime whining: If your puppy whines or barks during the night, do not give in to their demands. Instead, wait for a few minutes to see if they settle down on their own. If they continue to whine or bark, take them outside for a quick potty break and then put them back to bed without any play or attention.

  6. Be patient and consistent: It may take a few weeks for your puppy to adjust to the new routine and learn to sleep through the night. Be patient and consistent in your approach.

Remember that puppies have smaller bladders and may need to go outside more frequently than adult dogs. With time and consistency, your puppy will learn to sleep through the night, and you'll both be able to get a good night's rest.
